Culture & Heritage

At Akwa Ibom Community North West, we are committed to creating meaningful change in people’s lives—both locally in the North West of England and back home in Akwa Ibom. Our mission is to support those in need, empower communities, and provide opportunities that transform lives.

Our Cultural Identity

Akwa Ibom is known for its warm hospitality, colourful festivals, and deep respect for family and community. We celebrate these values here in the North West through cultural events, social gatherings, and community projects that keep our heritage alive.

Language

Our languages, including Ibibio, Annang, Oron, and others, are central to who we are. We encourage members to pass these languages on to the next generation, ensuring our children and youth remain connected to their identity.

Food & Cuisine

Akwa Ibom cuisine is world-famous for its variety and flavour. From Edikang Ikong and Afang Soup to fresh seafood dishes, our food brings people together and reminds us of home. Our events often feature traditional meals to celebrate and share our heritage.

Traditional Music & Dance

Music and dance are at the heart of our celebrations. Traditional drumming, folk songs, and cultural dances not only entertain but also teach values, history, and unity within the community.

Festivals & Celebrations

We mark special occasions and cultural festivals that reflect the joy and pride of Akwa Ibom life. These events allow us to share our traditions with our children and showcase them to friends and neighbours in the UK.

Heritage for the Future

Our goal is not only to celebrate our culture but also to pass it on. Through youth programs, cultural workshops, and storytelling, we ensure that the next generation grows with pride in their Akwa Ibom identity.

The Culture & Heritage of Akwa Ibom is a gift that unites us. By keeping it alive here in the North West, we build stronger bonds as a community and share the richness of our traditions with the wider world.
